Long-eared Owl (asio otus)

Long-eared Owl (asio otus)

A finely marked bird, the adult male Long-eared Owl illustrated was a Hampshire road casualty. In fact the New Forest remains a popular stronghold for this bird. Long-eared Owls are rarely seen outside of winter roosts, being almost wholly nocturnal (though can be seen hunting at dusk and dawn).
