Tawny Owl (strix aluco)

Tawny Owl (strix aluco)

Another male bird, reddish-brown, probably the normally understood 'tawny' colouration. Interestingly, debate continues as to which of the Tawny Owl pair calls the famous 'to-whit-to-woo' - in fact, the female calls 'to-whit' ('ker-wick'), whilst the male sings 'to-whoo', an undulating 'hoo-hoo'.
