Great Horned Owl

Great Horned Owl

With a range stretching from the conifer forests of Canada and Alaska, way south to the tip of South America, the Great Horned (bubo virginianus) is the New World's predominant eagle owl species. Main prey items are various types of hare, and it requires a large territory to be sure of sufficient food in lean times. The bird photographed was returned to its keeper.
